I WAS FIRST INTRODUCED TO THE WORD BOOK AS AN AID FOR JOURNALIST. I LEARNED TO KEEP THIS ITEM ON MY DESK BECAUSE IT WAS EASILY AVAILABLE, AND QUICK. I GAVE IT TO MY CHILDREN WHEN THEY WERE IN GRADE SCHOOL AND THEY USED IT THRU COLLEGE. THIS PURCHASE WAS FOR MY GRANDCHILDREN, THE OLDEST IS IN THE SECOND GRADE. AFTER RECEIVING IT HER MOM CALLED RAVING THAT IT WAS HELPING SLOAN TO CHECK HOW A WORD IS SPELLED. SHE HAS TO SOUND THE WORD OUT TO ENTER THE BOOK ALPHABETICALLY. IT ALSO IS MUCH EASIER TO USE THAT A DICTIONARY.
A Must Have!

I bought my first copy when I was in college, I think it's the first edition, copyright 1976. I have been looking for a newer version for years. I reccommend this to EVERYONE. It is so useful. Anyone that writes anything, a letter, a e-mail, a school report. You name it and it's there for you. My 1976 copy's pages are really turning yellow, and the cover is so dog eared, it's a wonder it's in this good of shape. Thank You Kaethe Ellis!

This book is excellent. Better than a dictionary if you are a bad speller. You can have almost no idea how to spell a word, you will find the correct spelling in this book. This book is a must for anyone who is a bad speller.
