Hope through troubled times

I read this book and thought it very relevant for all women at various times in our lives. I then promptly purchased several copies to give to friends who were presently experiencing difficulties. Dr Miller gently and persuasively guides the reader from a place of victimhood to a position of power and convincingly presents case studies that show that resilency can be a learned behavior. I recommend it highly because it is so accessible and helpful, and because it is so needed in the complex and sometimes overwhelming world we inhabit.

For Men Also

I picked up my wife's copy - listen guys - you complain that you can never understand women. This book will give you a real deep insight into the woman's perspective. It will make you a better husband - boy friend - or just plain friend. It is a fun book with a lot of humor - you will laugh - and cry. I loved it!

Crossing the Threshold from Pain to Resilience

This well-written book is rich with teaching tales taken from real lives, classic mythologies and depth psychology. Dr. Miller gathers wisdom from a diverse variety of sources and weaves them into a beautiful tapestry. I particularly liked how she gave fresh insights into traditional topics such as setting limits and finding meaning in crisis. Her voice provides comfort and guide posts in troubled times. I imagine she's a terrific therapist, but if you can't have a personal therapy session with her, this book is the next best thing.

After many years of helping her patients individually and collectively bounce back and thrive in their lives, Dr. Beth Miller has wisely put it all together for those of us she hasn't seen yet! However we experience the world on any given day, one or all of these qualities of resilience, in practice, widen our capacity to recover from daily stress or traumatic, overwhelming experiences and enjoy life more wonderfully. The chapters defining all the qualities of resilience are full of depth, wisdom, clarity and ideas to practice. Dr. Miller offers us ways to see and live life as it really is, without needing to make it different. Her writing expresses ease and comfort to the reader, skillfully showing us how fundamentally and humanly we all have the same needs. I noticed while reading this book how our stories or strategies might be different, but our shared ability to access and refine our inner resources of resilience for these tough times is what helps us all restore balance. I felt much more hope for a cooperative and compassionate world after reading this great book. I will find a permanent place for it on my nightstand! Thank you Dr. Miller for this wonderful contribution to women!
