Book Overview

The studies of Jan and Jozek at the University of Warsaw are interrupted by the Nazi's brutal occupation of their homeland. While Jan's Catholicism keeps him from immediate persecution, his dealings in the Polish Underground endanger his life. "Passing" with forged identity papers as a gentile, Jozek is helping children from the Jewish Ghetto survive on the Aryan side. But the Nazi noose can only be temporarily kept at bay. After months of global peregrinations, Chris, a New Age hippie finds himself on a kibbutz in Israel on the eve of the War in Lebanon. The inhabitants of the communal enclave fascinate him, particularly an elderly Holocaust survivor named Yossi. Inexplicably drawn to this peculiar, reticent man, who often hums a Polish lullaby, Chris finds inexplicable solace in Yossi's presence and an overwhelming desire to protect him. Life is a marvelous, magical mystery, and the sometimes unfathomable power of love manages to overcome the confines of space and time and find itself....again.
