The Witch from the Sea

This is my absolute favorite book in the "Cornwall Saga." The series starts with Damask Farland in "The Miracle at St. Brunos" and continues from that time of King Henry The 8th, all the way to "We'll meet again." which is set at the time of World War II. Each book can stand alone but they are more entertaining read in sequence. "The Witch from the Sea" is the third book in the series beginning with the defeat of the Spanish Armada by the English. It is the story of Catherine Pennlyon's daughter Linnet who is Fennimore Landor's "intended" betrothed. By a strange twist of fate Linnet's path crosses with the dishonorable Column Casvellyn, and an intense attraction springs up which ultimately dooms her engagement to Fennimore. Linnet discovers a horrible secret that Column has kept from her,and when a beautiful stranger is washed up on their shore, she discovers too late, the true nature of the man she married. To Linnet's own detriment "Maria" becomes a member of the household and the mystery and suspense spin full speed to the very end!

...AND THE SEA WILL TELL...

Philippa Carr is a beloved author known to many by her other pen names, Victoria Holt and Jean Plaidy. A mistress of romantic suspense, as well as a masterful storyteller, this is the third in a series of about nineteen books by her in which she tracks a family throughout successive generations. One need not start at the beginning, as each one of the books can stand alone. Although somewhat formulaic, these books still have the power to keep the reader turning the pages. This one is set in Elizabethan England and tells the story of a young woman, Linnet Pennlyon, who is on the brink of becoming betrothed to one man, only to find herself forced to marry another, the rakish Colum Casvellyn, when circumstances intervene to change her fate. Her passionate relationship with her husband changes over time, when Linnet discovers some secrets about her husband that she would have been better off not knowing. Moreover, when a stunningly beautiful stranger is cast upon the shores of the their castle, Linnet's life is never again the same. It is then left to her daughter, Tamsyn, to set to right what once went wrong. Those who love the genre of romantic suspense, as well as fans of Ms. Carr, Mary Stewart, Norah Lofts, and Phyllis Whitney, will, undoubtedly, enjoy this book, as well as the others in this entertaining generational series of books.

Great book, horrible "hero"

I didn't read the Carr series in order and had to go back to this third book in the series when I got it. It's a great story, but I was disappointed in the "hero." Like many of Carr's heros, Collum Cassvellyn is strong and domineering. (...) Then instead of being reformed by her love, as a lot of Carr's heros are, Collum does some horrible things that are unredeemable. He gets what he deserves in the end, as we see in the next book in the series, Saraband for Two Sisters.

Any Philippa Carr novel

I have the complete set of a series of novels by Philippa Carr except the following:The Lion Triumphant and The Witch From The SeaThis series builds from each book to the next and is linked by the previous women's experiences - if you do not have the previous books, you don't understand the references in the current book(s). I am missing these links from the two above mentioned books.I strongly recommend reading the entire series - about 17 books - 19 counting the two above.Any help anyone can give me in locating these books would be appreciated.janna7@earthlink.net

A novel I wished would never end!

My library in school was giving away old books, and they told me to take one. For some odd reason I chose "The Witch from the Sea." I knew it was old, but decided to read it anyway. I was enchanted from the begining of the tale to the heart-rending end! This novel is certainly one of the best I have ever read, and I highly reccomend it. You won't be desopointed, nor will you forget it.
