One of the absolute SWEETEST children's books ever written!

This was my favorite book when I was little. I am now 35 years old and have a 20 month old toddler. When he was born, I asked my mom, "Did you happen to save The Winter Bear?" I was delighted that she had. Now, I read it to William and he loves it just as much as I had. It is one of those stories that grown-ups don't get tired of reading to their kids, either. It is very well written and the illustrations (by Erik Blegvad) are beautiful. The Winter Bear is the sweetest story of three kids out for a walk in the winter. The youngest child, a little boy, finds a teddy bear stuck in a tree. They all run home, dry it off, dress it up and lovingly seat him in the best arm chair. It is just heartwarming! This book should be at the top of every child and parents' must read list!

Gorgeous poetry, beautiful paintings and a delightful story

My two-year-old and I both love this. The little 'un began reciting lines of it back to me in the dark tonight as he fell asleep. He often asks for this book by name. The poetry is delicious; just made for reading aloud. The pictures and story are delightful - it is a warm comforting tale for any cold winter day.

a child's delightful, little winter adventure

I especially loved the language and pleasant pictures of this story of children finding a lost stuffed bear out in the winter weather....a nice cozy story for parent and child in 1988, and now again for me as grandparent and child in 1999.
