An spellbinding epic that is as relevant now as it was then.

This book is one of the most compelling & mesmerizing books that I have ever read. As I was drawn into the story of how this little island of Ceylon was born, I realized how much of the power, politics and mysticism of that time is as relevant then as it is now. This story was able to humanize war and blur the lines between what we neatly categorize to be 'good' and 'evil'. It eloquently rendered the glorious colors of love, in all its many forms. And it was able to encapsulate true essence of humanity in an era when the rules of love and war were in it's rawest form. Although it might take a bit more effort for a non-asian to follow (due to usage of some ancient Indian and Sinhala words), there is a glossary at the end that is a wonderful aid. A must read for everyone... let alone Sri Lankans!

A true epic saga of one man's path to self discovery: from boy king to Buddhist monk.
One of the best fictions!

I had a chance to read The Winds of Sinhala recently, and I was completely fascinated by it. It's one of the greatest versions of king DutuGamunu's story and I'm so glad I got hold of this book. I've been to Kirinda and some of the places of Ruhuna Kingdom, but now I will surely look at it a little differently.
Fantastic historical novel

One of the best books I have ever read. I felt transported back in time as if looking through a spy glass at trurbulent events occuring during the lifetime of the Great King. I made a trip back to Sri Lanka shortly after I read this book and as I was walking on the stone slabs around the Sri Maha Bodhiya I could almost see the Great King lying there on his death bed. I have been trying in vain to locate Colin De Silva's other books on the internet and haven't had much success.
A book of real honour, very rear these days.

A book that can change one's life. I never thought this type of imagination is possible , to read on a book. And to think that its our own Sri Lankan's creation. I sincerely like if the history happened this way.It really makes one to like to go back in time.
