There's something for everyone in this book

I'm not a huge NASCAR fan but these are definitely well-told stories anyone can relate to. This book is an interesting slice of America, and I've really come to like the people Andrew profiled. His "clueless New Yorker in NASCAR country" stories at the end of the book are hilarious, too.

This book captures the essence of NASCAR

I just finished reading Andrew Giangola's new book, "The Weekend Starts on Wednesday", and I loved it. Having been a longtime NASCAR fan, it was great to read about others who find this sport as exciting as I do. NASCAR is a culture and a sport, and Andrew's book captues that. From his stories about SuperChef Mario Batalli and Rachel Ray, to his story about Tom Cruise; you can see the effect this great sport has on people from all walks of life. I throughly enjoyed it, and I look forward to reading the sequel!

A loving tribute to fans

This book is a fascinating collection of human interest stories whose only common thread is that they are all NASCAR fans. Each of the 42 stories, organized into 9 sections, cover the full spectrum of American life. There is a inspiring story of a wounded war veteran on the one hand and a hilarious account of Bob's party bus in the Michigan track infield campground on the other. There are celebrities and everyday people that each have a story about the sport they love. Devoted fans of any sport will be able to relate. The author either belly laughs like a beer drinking buddy or solemnly ponders the twists of fate like a best friend depending on the type of story he is telling. After reading Andrew Giangola's book, he seemed less a NASCAR fan and more a fan of the people who love the sport. What a great read!!
