so it came to this

As a long time Cathy fan and a big time collector I have seen Cathy make up and break up with Irving, her longtime off and on beau. Through the thirty years that Cathy has been evolving into the woman she is now, I somehow knew that Irving would never be far out of her mind. Especially since he has made appearances in all of her comic books and most of her strips. The best thing about the couple is that they have changed a long way from the early seventies...Cathy was a self concious, overweight, depressed 20 something who wanted only to take care of a husband and have a family. Now she is a self made woman with a house, dog, good job, and security but still battling diets, clothing sizes, and mother's advice. Irving used to be a macho man interested in having Cathy wait on him hand and foot, get him food, and be supportive of his love for golf, football season, and his "man outings". Now he is a sensitive, supporting man who realizes his changes, and the time he has wasted by not finding out that Cathy was the one. Yet through the 30 years that they have been fighting, breaking up, making up, and loving each other, it has made for some hilarious moments and I could parallel a lot of their episodes in relationships I have had. This wedding was inevitable, they finally let down their guard and celebrated their love. This collection is so funny. Its great because it shows the wedding preparations and the mothers and friends reactions. Plus Guisewite adds a bonus by including strips from different years showing the way they grew and changed which evolved into the engagement. I love Guiswite's take on a single girl living her life and I was bummed when I found out Cathy was getting married. But this is a great collection and I will always be a fan of hers no matter what route her characters take.

I DIDN'T believe my eyes....!

....Cathy actually got Irving to the altar! As a longtime Cathy fan, I thought that day would NEVER come! And her mother's reaction to their engagement was PRICELESS! Still, with both of their dueling insecurities, foibles, hang-ups...and YES, their dogs, I look forward to more mayhem in Cathy's ever-changing world!

A collection of strips devoted to Cathy's wedding

Cathy is a popular daily comic strip which has appeared for years - and one of Cathy's main concerns has been finding romance and love in life; so it's fitting that an entire book be devoted to her success in The Wedding Of Cathy And Irving, a collection of strips devoted to Cathy's wedding, from the lead-up to her saying 'yes' to a year of wedding planning leading up to the event. Cathy fans and any interested in marriage will find plenty to laugh at, here.

pure "tickle your funny bone" material

Cathy Finally Gets Her Man!

Being a Cathy fan since day one, I feel qualified to let potential readers know that this book is great! However long you have followed Cathy's life, you need to experience Cathy and Irving finally taking that last step. This book gives highlights of their years together (and apart) and will leave you feeling like you missed something by not being invited to their wedding! Bravo, Ms. Guisewite! I laughed out loud (as always). Now I'll wait patiently for the next book...Cathy and Irving's House Hunting Extravaganza!
