This is my favorite romance story of all time. The setting is 1930 which makes it "old fashioned" in every way. I read it at least twice a year. There is no bad language and no bedroom scenes! I highly recommend it, although, one might have to do some searching to find it since it's out of print.
Very low key romance with unexpected depth

I first read this back in the 60's when I was a teenager. It is long out of print and I ordered it used just to see if I would still like it. It is an unusual romance that is hard for me to categorize. On the surface, it is the usual "secretary marries high powered tycoon she has been secretly in love with for years" modern romance. He wants a marriage of convenience. She agrees because half a loaf is better than none. The author avoids a lot of the cliches of that genre, however. There are no silly fights or misunderstandings. There are some real insights into this 'cold' business man's character, and how he got that way. The heroine, Eliza, is also unusual for a romance novel. She is intelligent, mature, sensible, and secure in herself. While desperately in love with Dan, she tries her best to hold to the bargain she made, and make herself and Dan as happy as possible. There is a villain and a murder mystery, but, of course, love triumps in the end.
