Title is great. Content is meh

NAVY SEALs emit a kind of magical, masterful quality, but there’s no magic or magnetism in The Way of the SEAL. I should have paid way more attention to the subtitle “Think like an elite warrior to lead and succeed” because the book is oriented towards business leaders and it’s all about author Mark Devine’s recommended multi-step mental processes. I was tremendously disappointed Devine didn’t have much more to say about the mind body connection and the life-changing impact of pushing yourself beyond physical limits. Devine explains his MUST DO mental processes as a series of checklists, unfamiliar acronyms and there are also several references to SEALFIT, Devine’s business. The book is well written but for me, I wanted more content specifically related to the warrior theme, and Devine didn’t deliver it. The Way of the SEAL has a 2013 copyright and claims bestseller status. This must have something to do with the appeal of all things having to do with NAVY SEALs and with Devine’s name recognition. I kept waiting for this book to engage me and get good, but ummm, no, not even a little. Dare I say it might be a girl thing? For me, the most interesting part was “Mark’s Weekly Training Plan,” a seriously regimented regime that starts at 5:30 am and ends at 10:30 pm. It’s extraordinary because Divine’s waking time is 100% booked; and to be fair, every single mental process he recommends is included in his schedule. All things considered, I was hoping The Way of the Seal would light my fire, but it didn’t. It’s a “meh” from me, folks.
