a lost near-masterpiece of sci-fi

I bought this at a used bookstore and was very impressed. It's a unique, highly evocative, extremely well written "after the apocalypse" type of book. Only one ill-explained plot development involving a secondary character kept this from being pretty perfect, still, it's a great story well told. This book deserves to be in print.

Much better than average; original

This is probably one of my favorite 'after-the-apocalypse' novels (and I've read *many*) of the past 10 years. It's been a few years since I've read it, so I forget some of the details, but it's very original, and it stands above many of its contemporaries. The feel of the highly oppressive religious-based society is very real, as is the telepathic element. If you can find a used copy, I would definitely recommend it. A friend of mine loved it too.

One of my favorite books

This is one of the best books that I have read. I don't know if Jim Aiken is still being published or not, but if you are able to find this book anywhere(I found it in a second hand shop) pick it up.

THis is one of the best science fiction novels of the 1990s.

This is one of those books that you hope to find but seldom do. It is creative science fiction, not hard science fiction. The excellent writing accompanies a well-developed story that becomes hypnotic at the end. The book is something of a messiah tale. It is not a romping read, but it will return to the patient reader a reward far in excess of the effort put in. I loved this book. I wish it and Aiken's other books were more readily available. The fact that they are hard to find probably reflects on their literary appeal in a not-often-literary genre.

A nicely composed piece of science future

The Wall at the Edge of the World is a dynamic piece of work. It centers around one man's mental awakening in a society of mind communicators and conditioners. The novel unfolds an intricate storyline through quiet complexities of thought and reason. It imposes the question of; If it is good for most of society is it always good for all of the people
