AN EPIC JOURNEY OF SELF DISCOVERY

If you are looking for a comic novel with a lot of sex in it, this one isn't for you. But if you are looking for a substancial novel of sexual morals and concerns, you can't find something better. Yes, there is a lot of comic comeback verbal quips in the book (coming from a secondary ...but essential character), but the main story is one of self discovery. All the characters are fleshed out, the realities of them almost scaringly real. Workers....parents....friends....lovers. You've known people like these at most times in your life. This novel takes you on a voyage of discovery not only about the main character, but allows insight, perhaps, into your own life. This is not only just a well done, insightful piece of fiction, but is practical and almost inspirational. So many times the endings of novels are forced and unreal. This one was not. As a published author, with two novels currently in print, I tend to criticize various writings for their shortcomings, however there are none here. This novel takes you on a voyage of discovery, and one that needs to be read. You will appreciate that you did, and if you don't....you will miss out and something new, original and most different. (Actually, the sausage scene alone is worth the price of the book.) So try it! You'll like it!

profound theme

I just finished the book--it is wonderful! Touched me very deeply in many ways, was HILARIOUS, and really moved me at the end--I can relate to the epiphany experience a lot. This latter experience speaks directly to themes of loss and nostalgia, but most importantly clarifies the overerarching theme--secrecy to prevent the loss of love--for Jason, the protagonist. This profound theme ties together the personal and professional aspects of Jason's life, and did the same for me.

What a Journey!!!!!

Luongo, Michael T. "The Voyeur: The Novel", Alyson, 2007. What a Journey!!!!! Amos Lassen and Literary Pride Michael Luongo in his novel "The Voyeur" gives quite a look at sex and self preservation among gay men in New York. Jason Green, our main character is a 27 year old sex researcher and educator, He feels if he can find out more about our sexual lives, society will be that much better off. He gets a view of the "dark side" of the human psyche and behavior and learns what we have to do to give ourselves definition. When Jason is almost attacked, he is saved by a wooden penis while he was researching private and personal lives of gay men. What he is researching is actually part of the underground homosexual scene in America's largest city. As he looks at lives, he also is let into secrets. As this happens, Jason realizes that his work is dominating his life and threatening the relationship he has with his parents, his co-workers and his relationship with his partner. He soon finds out that he has not spent enough time looking at his own life instead of looking at the lives of others. The seamy side of New York that he researches includes sex clubs and bathhouses and he discovers that this dark world of sex is filled with danger. But there is one more shock awaiting him and it is even greater than any he has experiences so far. As a voyeur he is not able to stop watching as this world which was unknown to him fascinates him and sucks him in. This is one of those books that you will not want to put down. The suspense and the plot are irresistible and when you combine a good story with a great writing style, you get a double bonus. The book seduces you with its cleverness and is an exciting story of what lasts from generation to generation and what disappears. A real tour-de-force, "The Voyeur" is one of the books that you will want to read this summer. An added plus is that it will give you a whole new viewpoint toward what many gay men consider to be the most exciting sex life possible.
