Another Good Paulsen Book

I enjoy most if not everything Gary Paulsen has written. I enjoyed this book, not as good as Hatchet, but still a story that pulls at the heartstrings and kept my interest.

The Voyage of the Frog

David Alspeth's uncle Owen had been taking him sailing and teaching him to sail for years. Then David's unlce Owen found out that he had cancer. It was spreading very fast. A week after he went to the doctor, he passed away. Before he died while he was in the hospital, Owen called David in. Owen told him that he wanted David to have his sailboat, the Frog. He also told him that he was going to be cremated and he wanted David to take his ashes on the Frog out in the middle of the ocean and scatter his ashes where you can't see land. When Owen passed away, David took his ashes out like he was supposed to. It wasn't as easy as he thought his trip would be. David went through a couple of big storms, had many encounters with ocean animals, and got lost at sea. Would David ever make it back home? Find out in this great adventure book!

great book

In the beginning, David's dying uncle asks him to scatter his ashes in the ocean when he passes away. The next day David goes out on the boat with his uncle's ashes. As he ventures out, a tremendous storm hits him, and David gets cast away for nine days. He has some very close encounters with an oil tanker, a shark, and killer whales. If you want to find out more about this book stop by a library and check it out and read it. I think this is a very heart-pounding, adventurous story and it is just an awesome book. When you read it you might think it is a humorous book in some parts. It is a story with twist and turns. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. I seriously think that this is a book that I would read more than once; it is so great.

The Voyage Of The Frog

Have you ever been lost at sea with barely any food or water? Well, David Alspeth has in the book The Voyage Of the Frog. David Alspeth is a 14 year old boy who loves to sail. One day he goes out on his uncle?s boat to toss his uncles ashes into the ocean. Once he gets far out to sea a storm picks up and takes him on an adventure. David must try to survive. The theme is if you put your mind to it you can do it. I really liked this book because it has a lot of action and adventure. Action lovers will really like this book.

Another Good Paulson Book

This book not only has action and adventure, but also a plot. The main character is David Alspeth, who journeys out to sea to scatter his Uncle Owen's ashes. But he gets hit hard with a storm and swept 315 miles away from his home in California. He pases many obstacles, like almost being hit by an oil tanker, and experiences many wonders, like befriending killer whales. But he makes it home and finally fufill's Owen's dream. I thought this was a very good book for people who not only crave action but also Paulson's writing style. Things happened more in David's mind than in his boat, but this was a good action book none the less.

An unbelievably compelling adventure/survival story

Gary Paulsen is definitely my favorite author of all time. In most of his books, there's a tale of struggle, survival, and learning lessons the hard way. "The Voyage of the Frog" is no exception. David Alspeth's uncle dies and gives him a boat called the Frog that he pretty much lived in. He tells David to go far out in the Pacific Ocean to where he can't see any land in any direction and scatter his ashes. David does that, but some trouble arises, a storm carries him further out to sea. David has to find a way to get back to the coast of Ventura, California before he dies of starvation, from the storm's wrath, etc."The Voyage of the Frog" has elements of survival, adventure, and suspense to it that make it a great book. You'll see David go through a harsh storm, a shark attack, and even a near collision with an oil tanker. Gary Paulsen knows how to use imagery better than most writers do. While you're reading the book, you'll actually feel like you're the character in the story. Another thing, it usually takes me at least a week to read a book that's only about 150 pages long, but I just couldn't put down "The Voyage of the Frog." The first night I had it I read more than half of the book, and then I finished it the second day because I couldn't wait to find out what happened. I recommend this book to anybody.
