I first read this novel (the paperback edition) back in the summer of 1979 when I was 12 years old, and to this day I still regard it as one of the best supernatural horror novels I've ever read. The overall mood and atmosphere of the book is very chilling--even though most of the events take place in broad daylight, adding an element of so-called "sunlit horror". The novel's final scene, however, does take place at night and it's a scene that I will never forget. Being only twelve at the time, it made a huge impression on me. I've always thought it was a shame that no director/producer saw fit to make this excellent novel into a movie. Oh, what a great chiller it would be!
Great obscure read

My friend and I were roaming rummage sales in the summer of 1999 and I bought "The Visitor" as one of a dozen books for $1.00. I was so glad that I did. This intriguing tale is about a very strange young woman in a mental institution with terrifying powers. It is also the story of a husband and wife struggling to make their marriage succeed. The husband-a smug pychiatrist works at the institution where "the visitor" is housed. The story is fast paced and rewarding, though pretty gruesome at times. Its fabulous.
