Seventh Book in The Power Series

While at a classmate's Halloween costume party, teen psychic McKenzie Gold meets a handsome, mysterious man named Michael Blake. Unexplainably, she finds herself falling for him, even though she already has a steady boyfriend. Not long after they start dating, McKenzie starts having psychic visions about Michael that reveal his secret identity--he's a vampire. Even though the reader already knows this from the beginning (the title's a dead giveaway), McKenzie and her best friend, Lilith Caine, repeatedly question who he really is. Besides being somewhat patronizing to the reader, "The Vampire's Kiss" is also a bit musty concerning the vampire myth (i.e., nocturnal activity, some blood drinking, though the book is more atmospheric than violent). This isn't the best vampire story I've read, but fans of this series will probably like it. Plus it's short and fast-paced (144 pages), which will appeal to preteens who like paranormal horror but don't want to read very much.

brilliant

Harris like Metz (auhtor of the 'Roswell' and 'Fingerprint' Series of book) will undoubtedly soon be disocvered by the networks, her books will be overhauled turned into a miniseries and merchadised to death, on account of her tight simple plotting, which isn't in the least bit sparse, but is exceptionally functional, every sentence serves a purpose, to propell each story with great velocity towards a, not always predictible or comfortable conclusion. McKenzie Gold is a phenomenally likeable heroine, Harris has a genuine sympatheic affection for every one of her characters, perhaps this arises from the fact her works as yet remain undiscovered by a wider audience. The Vampire's Kiss is her homage to the theatrical aspects of the supernatural and the tradtitional myths which shroud halloween. Its a little contirved and the twist is not exaclty limbre its actually quite clasical, however seeing her heroine as being compromsied and disoreinated, the flip side of her normally stern assured personality is an interesting exhibit.
