One of the best books I've ever read.

I've got to tell you, when read this book when it first came out, I was 13-years-old. Since then, I must have read it another three or four times. When I initially purchased the book, I thought it was going to be some guilty pleasure reading, but from the very first chapter I knew I was hooked, and it became the first book I've ever read within 48 hours. It starts with David, a young loser trapped inside a coffin. He breaks out to find his mouth sewed and his body embalmed, yet he thinks he is still alive. Before he knows it, he's killing people as he realizes he has indeed been turned into a vampire, left to fend for himself in the modern day. This is no Anne Rice vampire story, and it does not glorify the lifestyle. He decomposes, is hunted down as a killer, tries in vain to fit back into his life with his friends and family by using illusions, only to end up hurting them more. Finally he decides to take out the head vampire who turned David, and who is also trying to weasel his way into David's (un)life by toying with his friends and family. This book is dark, sexy, and doesn't have many happy moments or endings. If you have a little time and a few bucks to spare, I seriously suggest you take the time to check out this little diamond in the rough.

Undead and Hating It

Like Byers says in his comments, this book shows vampirism for exactly what it is. Instead of the aristocratic counts with the Romanian accents these vampires are truly walking corpses that exist by extracting the blood of the living. A truly great read!
