Untamed and Unashamed

This collection of three short novels by three of the best to have written of the American West is not to be missed. The best of the three is the Zane Grey entry, Canyon Walls, first serialized in the Ladies' Home Journal in 1930. It is the story of an outlaw wishing to go straight, and finds a family in a remote canyon who is willing to take him in, no questions asked. Showdown on the Hogback, the Louis L'amour entry was later expanded and published under the title, Showdown at Yellow Butte under the Jim Mayo by-line as was its magazine debut. The Max Brand novella is Black Sheep. And as I have said previous in other reviews, you either love his work or hate it, and I can usually tell within a few pages which it will be for me. Two of the three are excellent works which makes this book worth purchasing. And the fact these are appearing as the author wrote them before some magazine or book editor got a hold of them--Can we really believe that since there is an editor's name listed on the book? If this is true then indeed I can now read Zane Grey, Louis L'amour, and Max Brand as they intended to be read.
