The Unformed Conscience of Evangelicalism: Recovering the Church's Moral Vision

Ours is a time of moral crisis. Are evangelical Christians up to the task of contributing to the present ethical debates? Moral Vision

In this book the Author takes an in-depth look at the state of Evangelicalism and Christianity as a whole on the subject of Moral and Ethical issues within the Church. He handles the most avoidable topic of vice and virtue, and sets out to discover why the evangelical conscious is mostly unformed and suggest we need improvement on responsible moral, ethical and doctrinal thinking. The Author J. Daryl Charles cites that the Church has moved from a biblical model of Christian teachings to a Therapeutic model. He cites modern psychology's infusion and distribution into the Church as contributing to the breakdown of moral and ethical standards that have long been held by the Christian Church. In each chapter several words, such as Freedom, justice, etc - are examined in the light of Scripture and their meaning. He stresses the need for a good foundation of doctrine and a knowledge of Christian theology is needed in the Christian's life to counteract error. He also points to the neglect of theological and doctrinal training as well as the teaching of Church history to the individual christian. The author in amplifying his position on moral and ethics in Church history, illustrates his point by giving example of William Wiberforce life, and the men of Church history that surrounded him. He points to Wilberforce's calling, endurance, and high biblical standards of moral and ethics propelled Wilberforce's faithfulness as by the grace of God to see the completion of his calling. It is hoped that the soon release movie -'Amazing Grace' will put the emphasis on these finer points of moral and ethical commitment by the grace of God, and Not--make his life story and purpose--Only one of humanitarian purposes and human will, but of his Christian convictions, his faithfulness to God's Word to correct injustice by the Scripture, and that a rich Christian history is portrayed. This book was enjoyable to read and thought provoking.
