What an enjoyable book! My son brought this book home from the school library and we have read it everynight. He has to take it back tommrow so I have come online to buy it. What is great about this book is, the illistrations, the lyrical tone, the fantastic message of finding joy out of sharing. And what I love about this book is that it captured my sons attention from start to finish. He is developmentally delayed and he has a hard time keeping up with stories when read too. But not this book, he sayed intently focused on the story. And when it was done, he dug his apron out of his toy box and started "baking" his own unbeatable bread. AWESOME BOOK!
Ahh So Satisfying!

This book is wonderful in every respect. Once I read it to 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders and the room was so quiet you could've heard a pin drop! It's lyrical spiritual entertaining AND the man bakes bread.. he loves it!! and so does everyone else!! Illustrates many principles we could all learn from...the least of which is the joy of sharing...especially yummies from the kitchen. Beautiful inside and out ~ a celebration ~ HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

We loved this book! I'm somewhat ashamed to say that I had never had the courage to bake yeast bread before this book, even knowing that it's supposed to be a wonderful, almost spiritual, soul-enriching experience... This book changed my mind and gave me the confidence to proceed beyond zucchini bread and muffins. Uncle Jon's faith in the pleasures of baking one more loaf - even though, as his wife points out, their kitchen is filled to the brim with baked goods and there's no one around to eat any of them - as well as the marvelous rich lifelike illustrations, got me straight into the kitchen. Baking bread is worth it all on its own; the question of whether there's anyone around to eat is strictly a moot point. And lo and behold, as the story goes on, the enticing smell of the baking bread does wake up people and animals who come sleepily wandering into Uncle Jon's kitchen from all around the countryside. My daughter and I hummed and sang as we kneaded and waiting, punched down and braided, and (of course) ate our delicous bread. This is a wonderful addition to any family's library.

this is a fabulous book. both the illustrations and text are done wonderfully. the images are very bright and vivid and the text has a wonderful flow and it also rhymes. i highly recommeng this book to both the young and young at heart - or just to anyone who loves bread.
