A Guide Through The Haze

Faced with hundreds of bottles that start to look the same, it's no wonder we so often walk out of the wine shop with a bag of not quite what we had a taste for (but the salesman said is a nice oaky Chardonnay that goes with everything). Fred DuBose and Evan Spingarn pilot us through the fog with hundreds of specific suggestions and, more importantly, descriptions of each variety of grape so we will never end up on the rocks again.

Don't miss this savvy wine guide!

I love the size and approachability of this little gem! The writing is clear and fun, and the wines are unique international selections from off the beaten path! If you're looking for a way to really help boost the quality of your wine cellar, then just buy one of everything they recommend...you won't be disappointed in any of their picks!

The best, the definitive, the only wine guide you must have

I have not gone wrong with a single bottle on it's recommendation and many of the wineries it has introduced me to are now my favorites. If you love wine buy this book. You will drink better wines for the rest of your life

Discerning without being snobby

Discerning without being snobby, The Ultimate Wine Lover's Guide by Fred DuBose and Evan Spingarn is so well-written you'll enjoy it even if Gallo Jug is your usual referent and not cru. One of the nicer things about the Guide is that it gives as much attention to the $10.00 bottle of table red as to the highest level reserve. Even oeneophiles, for instance, will admit to enjoying the sidebar Did You Say Screwtop? but will also want to know that an Amarone is "worth every penny" at a possible $60-65 or enjoy a knowledgeable discussion of a 400 Chateau Ausone with its barrage of violets and truffles. I admit to a certain prejudice: the store on which the book is based, and refers to, is in my neighborhood. (And one of the writers has worked there). But with a thousand wines "covered," you can live anywhere to enjoy and use the book. Opinions will always differ, of course, but there's a useful terminology guide too. Bacchus would love it

The Ultimate Wine Lover's Guide handsomely expands your wine-buying horizons. Each grape comes with an engaging background story, along with worthy wine choices, from modest to expensive. It's a handy way to learn about uncommonly good wine.
