Written by experts in the field and illustrated with over 1500 photographs, this is an exhaustive reference work to the world''s most remarkable locomotive engines and railways, and is a book to inspire rail enthusiast and armchair traveller alike.'
As an avid researcher of the world's many countries and cultures, I take a particular interest in the ways different countries' peoples travel in their normal lives. And this book, the Ultimate Encyclopaedia, seems to be the perfect answer. Having been fused together with Colin Garratt's fantastic reference guide about Locomotion, this 512 page leviathan dips deeply into great railway journies of the world, and also how rail transportation has evolved each decade through the years since the early 19th century. Being quite a heavy read, with paragraphs classified into different sections, one at first may assume that it is a set of lectures read out at a rail museum. But only after two or three pages are turned through this guide, you will be amazed at how crisp clear the thousands, and I mean thousands, of images are laid out around the large print pages of the book. I will award this book five stars, simply for the amount of time that must have been spent diligently researching into the uniquest of unique means of railway transportation. Yet another fantastic book.
