Everything and Anything From Almost Anywhere Under the Sun

This 1996 book covers a vast territory of information from the history and development of Cross Stitch, to medieval, celtic, traditonal, folk art and contemporary designs and all at once. A very ambitious project, but it doesn't stop there. It then features pieces with Swiss, North American, African, Mexican and Indian influence. There is also a section on the construction and design of pieces, choosing fabric, gauging the size of a piece, threads, floss, wool and stitch technique. The color plates in this book are wonderful and deserve a 5 all by themselves as do many of the designs, whether one likes them or not. The choice of project useage is dated in many instances but this is 15 years after they were designed and there is still a freshness to most of the motifs, many of which are quite unusual. This is again a compendium and might be a welcome addition as a muse for inspiration in your library. I find the Celtic pieces particularly inspiring. I look at mine often and imagine the possibilities and what is right for which person I know. It's an oldie but a goodie and has the best pictures I've seen yet.
