"This Year, Celebrate All 12 Days of Christmas"!

Isabella, several of my reasons for loving and collecting books are because you can find all kinds of non-traditional styles. There are miniatures small enough to fit in the palm of your hand; there are fold-out or pop-up books that appear to come alive, as you turn the pages; these are paper engineered by a few creative people. There are also, large books, which, when opened, take up a good two square feet, and then, there are the tall books that open up wide and reveal some awesome pictures. And, then, for those of us who hold on to memories, there are books (and I have a few) that weigh a good 8 pounds because they are reference books. Look on your book shelves, they are probably already there. Other books follow the traditional style, and can be easily placed on the shelf for quick access. So, where do we put this book; well, this book is a broad horizontal band of decoration, that is sometimes rolled up, and other times, folded up like an accordion. Not to forget the technology books that are electronic and can hold countless editions. So, let's look at this book, done in a frieze fashion where the contents are basically a three-dimensional decoration when assembled and set on the table or mantle. This book, and others like it, were found a few years ago, in a bin at a book store. What I noticed about this book are the ribbons on each side for tying, to hold it in place. Once you open this book, you will find it to be a three -dimensional decoration that will adorn your Christmas table. Find a small artificial tree to hang these ornaments on, or, better yet, find some very thin ribbon to attach these twelve ornaments to, and hang them in a window which will allow for the display of all 12 ornaments. The words attributed to the "Twelve Days of Christmas" are included in the frieze (the horizontal fold-out decoration). As you will notice, you can either poke out all of the twelve decorations at one time, or poke out one at a time, as the 12 days progress; you will then attach a thin ribbon to each, and the story, the song, will take on its own presentation. Behind each of the slots, you will see a replicated stained glass window which allows light to pass through. For a child, this will be an excellent way of remembering the twelve days of Christmas. Most of all, Isabella, you will be able to decorate a window or set this on the table for your family's Christmas celebration. But, remember, there are 12 days of Christmas, not just one. Believe it! When the Christmas season ends, you can replace the twelve ornaments in the slots, tie the ribbons on each side, and put the book aside for next year. Merry Christmas, "I" and "A". Happy Memories!
