Conyers Read Fills in the Holes

The Tudors, by Conyers Read, portrays a very concise surgey of the history of England under the Tudors. It is constructed around the reigns of the five Tudor monarchs: Henry VII, Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary, and Elizabeth. Henry VII laid the foundation of Tudor excellency, who restored strength to the monarchy. This brought civil peace throughout England, and a new conception of royal leadership. The other four Tudors followed through with Henry VII's rebirth of England, and developed it into a country of strength and wealth. This book gives one a very good idea about what England was facing at the time of the Tudors. (1485-1603) However, one would be able to extract more from the book if they have some base of information surrounding this topic. This book is very condensed, and it gives one little or no time to really get to know the characters. All in all, I reccomend this to anyone who wants to know more about the fascinating Tudor family, and about politics in the Sixteenth Century England.
