Inspirational and Practical

This is a must-read book for peer counselors and for anyone in therapy or those who "should" be in therapy! Everyone has troubles and trials in life. But our response to them ... that's what gets us in trouble. Leslie Vernick has a wonderful writing style that shows how to look for the root of the problem and how to learn responses that are more affirming instead of destructive. Her gentle TRUTH principle approach is easy to remember and apply. I love this God-centered method of counseling/therapy/self-help and highly recommend it. I believe you'll find it to be a powerful gift in your life.

Couldnt put it down....

I devoured this book in 2 nights. My spirit craved for the truth that was so simply put in this book. The reading is easy but the meaning is deep. I could not put this book down until I was finished. I am going through a second time so I can really make the TRUTH principle a part of my life. Leslie shares personal examples from her own life along with those of others to really show how our faulty thinking, negative behaviors, and idols of our heart really do push God to the side and cause us more suffering. This is a must read for those who yearn to feel the presence of God and grow closer to him.

Leslie Vernick illuminates the pathway to lasting emotional and spiritual growth in The Truth Principle with easily remembered steps I can take throughout the day. The vivid examples from the Bible as well as Leslie's vulnerable personal ones illustrate clearly my need to identify my thoughts and feelings, which motivate my behavior. I have read a number of books regarding growth because I want to grow in my love relationship with Christ. This is one of the best. Leslie's book clearly explains how I need to look truthfully at my desires to see if they are actually idols blocking the relationship I sincerely want. I have already begun practicing the steps I learned from this book because I agree with Leslie: It is in learning to handle the little things we encounter in life that we develop what is needed to handle life's bigger problems. I'm looking forward to seeing how following these steps will free me from patterns of weaknesses hindering my growth! I plan to purchase copies of this book for friends and counselors I know! excellent book

As I started to read Leslie's book "The Truth Principle", I couldn't put it down. I read it from cover to cover, until early in the morning. Here was a book that taught Biblical truths in simple terms I could understand with practical applications I could relate to. It was written for me, a book to show me how to get what I knew in my head down into my heart, so real change could occur in my life. This book is without a doubt the best book I've read on spiritual growth. It is what it says it is on the front cover - a life changing model for spiritual growth. Leslie models for the reader how to understand why you respond to trouble and trials the way you do; how to identify and get rid of the idols that hinder change and finally how to discover the truth in God's word, so that your heart will respond and thus draw you closer to God, so you can practice God's presence in your life. Leslie's honest and her willingness to share her journey to spiritual growth with us is refreshing.
