Exquisitely written

This is one of those books you can't put down. A great read. Exquisitely written. Well developed, unique characters and Cohen charms you with her tight, descriptive prose. I found myself falling in love with the actual words, and structure of the book as much as the story itself.

Tish Cohen Shows That "The Truth" Can Be Stranger Than Fiction

What makes a book a success to me? Not just the way the author is able to paint a picture with the words he or she chooses to use, but my desire to share the experience with other people. That is where I found myself with Tish Cohen's novel THE TRUTH ABOUT DELILAH BLUE. This was my first time reading anything by this author, but now I see the buzz around her is not just superficial. She is a gifted storyteller that puts the reader into the character's lives and helps them to be not just entertained by think as well. What would you do if everything you thought was true about yourself and your life was turned upside down? How would you handle losing someone you love one piece at a time due to illness or an accident? What does it truly mean to live and how can we take full advantage of each day? Each of these questions are relevant to what we are all going through everything, and are posed in the new read by Cohen. If you are looking for something to read this summer that will stay with you for months to come, then THE TRUTH ABOUT DELILAH BLUE is definitely one you should add to your list.

A complex and completely engaging novel by Cohen!

I sat outside this morning and finished "Delilah Blue." What a captivating group of complex, quirky and palpable characters woven together in a sometimes heart wrenching -- always engaging story. I just adored Lila/Delilah; wanted to take Kiernan to the park and teach her to play. I yearned to smack Elisabeth a few times yet felt sympathetic toward Victor -- and I'm a divorced mom. Adam is unique yet universal. I loved the ending -- I loved the whole book. I didn't want it to end yet I raced to the last page.

COHEN'S LATEST A MUST READ

THE TRUTH ABOUT DELILAH BLUE Tish Cohen Goldberg McDuffie Communications ISBN: 978-0-06-187597-7 $13.99 - Paperback 409 pages Reviewer: Annie Slessman Having grown up in a dysfunctional family myself, I had no problem getting into Tish Cohen's latest novel, THE TRUTH ABOUT DELILAH BLUE. Delilah Blue Lovett was eight when her father abducted her and relocated to California. Delilah grew up without her mother, but in the care of a doting father. She and her father spend her childhood on the outskirts of Los Angeles in a rural community where seeing coyotes was a daily occurance. When Delilah's mother finds her, Delilah is now twenty and working as a nude model for art students. However, Delilah yearns to be on the other side of the canvas but her father will not support her idea of art school thinking it will lead her into the kind of life her mother had led...a somewhat open lifestyle based upon freedom of thought and action. Disapproving of this type of lifestyle, her father wants Delilah to get a business degree that he feels will serve her well throughout her life. When Delilah's mother finds her Delilah finds out she has a younger step-sister who has an obsession with missing children. While other kids collect stamps and bugs, this child collects pictures of missing children plastered onto milk cartons. While Delilah gets to know her mother and her newly found sister, her father is falling into the depths of Alzheimer's. While he seems to be losing his memory, he is also setting a plan in place that will care for Delilah when he can no longer remember how to do so. This is a beautifully written story that takes a reader into the world of art, the terror of Alzheimer's disease, the fears of abandonment, the human ability to forgive and a look into the mind of a young woman whose experiences have taught her more lessons than she could ever realize. The first paragraph of this book begins with, "The smell of asphalt and dandelions and the last days of school made the air tingle with summer promise: fireflies in applesauce jars, bare toes in the sand at Kew Beach, and leisurely decisions at the ice-cream truck about whether or not to chocolate dip. The afternoon heat had stilled the city." If that doesn't tantalize you to buy this book, nothing will.

More gold from Tish Cohen

Tish Cohen has done it again, and better than ever! THE TRUTH ABOUT DELILAH BLUE is about a young woman getting what she's always wanted, the return of her mother, only to learn that almost everything she knows about her is wrong. While still searching for herself, Delilah must come to terms with the lies of the one person she loves most, her father, and try to learn the truth before Alzheimer's steals it from him. She must also learn how to love a mother who is a stranger to her, and who arrives without notice and with Delilah's young half sister in tow. Cohen gracefully weaves Delilah's past and present together into a heartfelt story about truth, forgiveness, understanding and love. Absolutely enchanting.
