Riveting story with interesting characters

I found this one on the neglected books page. The reason I review this sadly neglected book is that I'm currently wrapping up The Garden of Last Days by Andre Dubus III and throughout the reading I kept finding similarities in facets of the narrative. I believe that a lot of what Mr. Dubus attempts to accomplish is captured more effectively By Theodore Weesner in his older neglected novel. The events take place in and around the area of Portsmouth NH in the 1970's. The True Detective is a fascinating and tragic account of fallible people under stress making bad decisions.
