Two gods were sealed into mortals after a battle in the old world which threatened the world. Simon was housing one of these gods and has been dealing with depression his entire life. One night, he gets a migraine which causes him to lose control of himself as he goes into a trance-like state and forms a protective dark barrier around him. HIs friends Em, Eric, Shaun, Doug, and a mysterious woman named Nissa come together and enter the barrier which leads to a fantastic realm of magic and monsters. They learn magic and befriend denizens of the world in the hopes of freeing Simon from the control of a god that threatens the world they live in.
