David Kirby is the most original sounding man writing poems

The separating of Kirby's long poems into three sections gives _The Travelling Library_ a shape that reins in the scattershot, academic humor and free-playing intellectual japery that is his trademark. Except for _My Twentieth Century,_ which is its equal, _The Travelling Library_ is Kirby's best book. The first long poem, "The Tasty-F Way of Life," will give you a yardstick to appraise all the supposedly with-it folks you see. The middle section is pure manic fun. The last poem, the title poem of the book, is one of the author's largest and most sustained, serious poems. It will have you rolling on the floor laughing.David Kirby is the most original sounding man writing poems out there. You shouldn't miss this.
