Great fun, well-written

This is written in a style that has recently become old-fashioned, which is to say light-heartedly but is nevertheless exquisitely erudite. This is full of references to historical figures, and is actually a decent treatise on how to make a delicious boiled beef and vegetable dinner. It's fun and charming. A side note: Don't let the section on women make you believe that the author is anything but pro-woman to the core.
