Tough Book for Tough Times

This book has been an important tool for me during the really difficult times we have had with our son. I have dragged this book out time and time again when I knew I couldn't melt and I had to stay firm no matter how painful it was for me and I knew my course of action was the right course for my child even though both us were suffering. There are simply times when you have to stand up and be a parent for your child in a way that is authoritative (not authoritarian) and be strong even if it means you are wildly unpopular and the "absolute worst parent in the universe" according to your child. When your child's safety is at issue and the acting out behaviors are negatively impacting every facet of your life and the rest of the family negatively, you have to take a stand and stick with it and be preparted for criticism from many different directions. This book helped me to do that and although it may take time for me to see the fruit of these difficult times, this book has helped me find the strength and fortitude to do the right thing, not be a friend, but to be a parent when it mattered the most.

Working Out the Tough Issues of Raising a Teen

This book helps parents answer tough questions like: Can you enforce a bedtime on a 15 year old? What if your child cheats on a test? Is it OK to read your child's diary? What do I say if the child asks if I used drugs? We can't agree on discipline.
