king tut

Excellent book well written a pity no colour photos;howard carter was an underated man and a brilliant archeologist.tutankamen was a little known pharoe but carter changed all that he should have had more credit but the establishment were against him.i did not believe in the curse more of a journalist propoganda than anything surely the finding of tut's tomb was about luck than anything else.the world was a different place after the discovery and ranks as the find of the twentieth century.

A riveting account by the man himself

This book is impossible to put down. It's Howard Carter's own account, written between 1923 and 1933, while he was at work on Tutankhamen's tomb. Although I half expected a dry, scholarly account, this work reads like a novel by Elizabeth Peters. Carter conveys not only the facts of his fabulous discovery. he makes you feel that you're experiencing this 10 year saga with him--from the excitement of opening the tomb, the awe inspired by its spectacular contents, the difficulties involved in their removal and preservation, down to the annoyance and inconvenience caused by the sudden avalanche of tourists visiting the site and trying to get tours of the tomb. When reading this book, bear in mind that it's Carter's own memoirs, written at the time. Intervening years and subsequent scholorship have, of course, changed (and hopefully improved) our understanding of the subject. Also, although this volume contains a few (extremely interesting) black and white photographs taken during the excavation, you'll find yourself wishing for a more complete photographic record of the artifacts to go along with Carter's very detailed descriptions. I recommend getting yourself a really nice coffee table-type picture book of the tomb contents that you can refer to while reading Carter's book.

The Tomb of Tut.Ankh.Amen: The Annex and Treasury

If your a serious fan of King Tut and Egyptology, this book is a must. Part III of Howard Carter's three part series, it gives execellent detail on the excavation of the tomb and everything that goes on around it. It will give you a greater appreciation of just what went into the original discovery and it's preservation. Learn more about what we now take for granted.

Carter's Original Still the Best!

Howard Carter's stunning discovery in the desert and his excavation of the two stone chambers reads like an adventure novel. It was obviously written in 1930's language, but this new color edition is a wonderful asset to anyone's bookshelf. Thank you Duckworth for bringing this one back to life!
