Not a Typical Time Management Book

"The Time is Now: Sixty `Time Pieces' for Getting the Most out of Every Day by Daniel S. Wolk was not what I expected. This book is not your ordinary time management book. Instead, it is a collection of short essays that cause you to stop and think about how you are spending your time. After all, we all have exactly the same amount of time, twenty-four hours each day. Wolk provides interesting, humorous, and most importantly, thought provoking tales that explore values and the measurement we call time. I think one of the most important themes that run through these sixty short vignettes is that of maximizing the time you are given so you don't look back on your life to discover you didn't really live. Wolk wants the reader to be able to answer "yes" to the question, "have I used my time well?" Wolk discusses his father throughout some of this stories and points out that his father died at the age of fifty-eight from cancer. In Wolk's dedication to his father he shares that even though his father died early, he never felt deprived or cheated, even in his last year. Why? "Because he viewed life as a constant journey. He treasured the steps leading to the mountain top as much as he might have delighted in reaching the peak. He realized that every moment can be a dream within our grasp." Wollk, who has been a rabbi for over thirty years, writes with warmth and humor. His insights contain much wisdom, and at times made me stop and ponder my own life and where I've been, what I've done, and more importantly, where I am going and what I'm going to do. And it is not just doing, but doing things of value. As Wolk points out through stories, "time management evolves from value management. " This book is not your typical time management text. It is not a guide on how to make to do lists, or prioritize your daily tasks. It is much more. It is a book of potent little stories. It is full of shared wisdom on the things that are really important in life. It is a book that just may make you examine your own existence and change your perspective toward life and the way you live each day. highly inspirational and relevant

I found this book to be well-written, highly inspirational, and thought-provoking. Through his interesting observations and anecdotes, Wolk dispenses wisdom and humor in a way that stays with you days after. Highly recommended.
