BEST and ENGROSSING!

[...] The Tenth Man was the best book that I read last year. It was suspenseful and kept your interest right up to the ending and had a unique finish. My only disappointment was that the author has not written another book as I am waiting to read more. Mr. Podojil is a really good writer and I enjoyed reading this book: it just ended too soon. I would really like to encourage this writer to continue his efforts. To paraphrase Mae West, "a good writer nowadays is hard to find!" Kris the Romantic

Gripping, creepy and suspenseful

This is the story of a man on the run. Jack Barillo finds that men from his past are getting killed one by one (warning to the squeamish: this ain't Agatha Christie's type of killings--these are startlingly detailed). The killer, Lucifer, seems to be the type who can't be escaped. I was interested in the Chicago settings, since I'm from there, but the environment in Amsterdam and Italy are also very well-done. Jack thinks he can get away from Lucifer by hiding out in Europe, then finds out that even his best-laid plans are laid open for exploitation. I look forward to more thrillers from this author!

Great Story

The story is compelling. Beware: the death scenes were a little too gruesome -for my taste. The author's portrayal of the various Italian and Dutch characters is delightful. The main character's struggle kept my attention and the secondary characters were well developed - very real. The elaborate descriptions of the Italian countryside and the quaint city of Amsterdam reminded me of vacations spent Europe. I'd like to see this book turned into a movie.

Excellent Book

This is one of the best books I have read this year. It was a great love story tied in with a major sicko serial killer. The book pushed a lot of buttons, social and otherwise, and I hope that there will be more coming from this author. I would highly recommend it.

Tenth Man Rates Ten Stars

The Tenth Man is an amazing first novel. It has beautifully written descriptions of the people and places of Italy and The Netherlands along with a first-rate mystery. OK, you'll solve the mystery long before the final chapter, but the author must intend that because the clues are rampant. But that's allright; it doesn't detract from the story. The crime descriptions are on a par with those of Brett Easton Ellis and, therefore, not for the squeamish. These contrast starkly with the beauty that otherwise abounds. The gay theme is woven throughout but enlightened readers, straight or otherwise, will find this a compelling read. Little information is provided about the author, E. William Podojil, but let's hope that The Tenth Man is the first of much more to come.
