A Personal and Sociological Examination of the Tarot
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 15 years ago
From back cover: "In her first book, 'The Tarot: History, Mystery, and Lore,' Cynthia Giles took a fresh look at the Tarot as an evolving construct of the human imagination. In 'The Tarot: Methods, Mastery, and More,' she explores the present and future of working with Tarot, in search of possibilities that transcend the obvious. Engaging on both a theoretical and a practical level, 'The Tarot: Methods, Mastery, and More' rediscovers the roots of divination in language and story, delves into the uses of Tarot for wellness of mind and body, explains the alchemical illuminations that Tarot can bring to personal growth, and raises the provocative idea that Tarot can contribute to planetary regeneration. A new vision of Tarot mastery emerges, one that goes beyond the achievement of skill to become the transformation of self. And along the way, practical insights, whimsical excursions, and unexpected characters create an intriguing picture of today's Tarot. Just as any practice - from athletes to music to Zen - can be a path to enlightenment, work with the richly historical, deeply archetypal imagery of the Tarot offers extraordinary opportunities. "
Insightful Overview

I found this book to be an insightful overview of Tarot and its relationship to almost every discipline you can name. As a counselor, I especially appreciated the way Ms. Giles associated Jungian psychology with Tarot. This is not a "how to" book, but rather a great way to be introduced to the relevancy of the Tarot for any person with even the slightest curiousity about the reason for Tarot's popularity among persons from all walks of life. Well worth reading--more than once!
