"Change--Finding the New You"

Reviewed by GeorgeAnne Smith for Reader Views (2/06) On page fifty of C.J.Golden`s book, "The Tao of the Defiant Woman---A Guide to life over 40", I discovered a quote that still sticks with me, "One cannot change the world, but you can change the way you react to it." I love those words, and they echo throughout this enlightening gem of wisdom, for women facing the inevitable process of getting older. In a kind and loving manner, C.J. Golden guides you through the many phases of growth and change the maturing woman faces. She uses examples to show this time in life is shared by many women from all walks of life. She helps you to understand, as a Tao defiant woman, how you too can come to terms with life changes faced as you journey the path of life. You'll learn to accept these changes and look at yourself, the new you-- Taogirl. Besides "bodily", C.J. Golden points out other changes in areas of relationship, such as children, spouse, elderly parents and treasured friends. She shares with the reader how the gift of having good role models, plays a major part in enriching a Taogirls life. She invites all maturing women to step up to the mirror, love and accept what you see, and eagerly embrace all five principles of "The Tao of the Defiant Woman--A Guide to Life over 40." I highly recommend this book to any woman who is struggling with the issues that surround women and aging. It is a great esteem booster and will help a woman see herself in a new and loving way. When you learn to love and accept yourself, and all changes your experiencing, you'll indeed, become a Taogirl. Welcome the changes your new life has to offer, I am.

A good read!

ACCEPTING WHAT WE MUST--AND REBELLING AGAINST THE REST! One of the great truths of Taoism states: To conduct one's life according to Tao is to conduct one's life without regret and to realize the potential within oneself. First I must say, you can grab onto or dismiss the Tao aspect of this book--and still get a ton of good ideas from it, so don't be turned away because of the title. The content is worth the read. A Taogirl can combine the "go-with-the-flow" attitude with a "get-up-and-go" streak of vitality, boldness and defiance. Taoism offers people a path through the various stages of life, existing in accordance with nature's cycles. These people know and appreciate the necessity for the highs and lows--and the flipside of the way we often view things, turning the bad situation into something positive. Included are wonderful quotes from women. One of my favorites is proof that we must listen to ourselves and not let others control how we feel and what we do. "I have gotten far by not listening to 'experts' telling me I'm not good enough, skinny enough or perky enough." - Queen Latifah (singer, actress, rapper and comic). The author reminds us that we need to give ourselves credit for our years rather than denouncing them. It's about a life richly lead--living that shows in our face--and elsewhere. Many people as they grow older allow their lives to shrink, rather than expand. They get new fears, become sedentary and watch as their world gets smaller. One of the biggest transitions for women is when her children leave, and one of her major roles of mothering ends. The author reminds us we must work on the most important relationship: with ourself--and to do those things you were always going to do when you "had time." Questions at the end of the five Tao principles are insightful. Armchair Interviews says: "Defiant women" are the most fun to be around (even if it is only when you look in the mirror), and this book tells us why. Great read with a reminder that accepting what we must--and rebelling against the rest is a good idea for every woman, regardless of what decade of life she is in.

Insightful and inspiring book for all women

This book gently and compassionately bathes its reader in the warm glow of aging with grace and just a touch of rebellion. A gentle nudge in the direction of surrender. Powerful, inpiring and potent.

My impression of The Tao of the Defiant Woman

C.J. Goldens writing style is very intimate, you feel she is talking directly to you...her interviews are very interesting and the illustrations and quotes reinforce her points. I enjoined this book and looking forward to her next one.

Wonderfully insightful book!

I highly recommend this book to women of all ages, even those who don't have any concerns about the changes that come with aging. Men might even enjoy and appreciate it! CJ's wit, charm, and easy style make it seem as if you're chatting with her in person as opposed to reading her words in print. The 5 Principles of the Tao and Defiant Woman are simple, but not simplistic; rather they are quite thought provoking. I can't wait to share them with my friends when I host my first Taogirl Gathering... I am truly proud and honored to consider myself Tao and Defiant!
