Kids and adults will delight in this bone-chilling, classic tale. In this spooky, horror-filled picture book, a strange varmint haunts the woodsman who lopped off his tail and had it for dinner.
This book holds a very sacred place in my heart. I remember reading this book on several occasions throughout my childhood and I can honestly say it use to give me goose-bumps. I just recently purchased a copy, 20 years later, and I have to admit, the story still entertains. This spooky and delightful little tale is not too wordy and the book's pace is perfect. The illustrations also add mystery by never really exposing the title character. We just get a peek of it's yellow eyes, it's claws, and of course, it's furry TAILYPO. Also, the old man's weathered, hopeless face and his 3 dog's droopy expressions make pitiful and likable characters that will surely delight the young reader. So for the younger crowd out there who would like a good-old fashioned scare, this book is perfect. Especially during those dark, stormy nights or out by a campfire or when you're all by yourself in your dark, empty room. Fear THE TAILYPO.
A Classic Brothers Grimm Style Faerie Tale
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 21 years ago
I highly recomend this book to all who love the classic, frightening, and yes often grousome faerie tales written by the Brothers Grimm. It is rare to find such wonderful story-telling talent in today's world of political correctness. "Tailypo" rings true to the style of both Grimm and Aesop, reminding children that there can sometimes be terrible consiquensies when you do terrible things to those around you. After reading this book I also recomend that you read "The Juniper Tree" and also "The Boy Who Left Home To Find Out About The Creeps" both of which are by the Brothers Grimm . Another great tale written in this wounderful style is a classic folk-tale called "Wait Until Emmete Comes" ,unfortunately I do not know the auther of this tale.I highly recomend that you read each of these books, especily "Tailypo"; for it's moral is as true today as ever,as the Bible says :"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Children should read "Tailypo" every night to remind them that if you do something bad to someone, bad things will happen to you.
Tailypo tailypo, where is my tailypo?!

I read this book back in elementary school, and I'd always remembered it. I didn't know whether it was in print any longer and am happy to see it is, because I search for every time I'm around the childrens books in a bookstore. I highly recommend this:) Just looking at the cover again makes me laugh....it's freaky, cute and morbid at the same time:)
The perfect book to scare your little kindergarden pants off!
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 24 years ago
We read this in kindergarden, and some of our friends are still having nightmares about it. We loved this book because it is sooo scary! Even in seventh grade SOME of us are still shrieking at the word TAILYPO. This IS a really good book, but beware of its impact on young people, especially those with, uh, overactive imaginations. The perfect book for reading around a campfire in the middle of the woods with lots of noises and glowing eyes all around...
Loving this book

I first heard this story when I was in Kindergarden, during a Halloween reading session . Needless to say I was very impressionable at that age, and now still refuse to sleep with my arms and feet off the bed at age 25. I recently began looking for this book and am happy to have found it here. All mental scarring aside, I love the story... but just wish they would release it with a stuffed critter ( perferably with permanently attached tail) to boot.
