Best ever

I've followed Battletech for over fifteen years. This is truly the best book I've never read. I still remember the day I saw it in the gamestore. I passed it up and instead snagged the new 'Decision at Thunder Rift' novel. How was I to know I'd never see the book again? Now I try to get it off auctions and search in vain at used bookstores and yard sales. So far, no luck. If I had one wish it would not be for fame, wealth, or world peace; it would be to read this book before I die.

Where It All Began . . . Before The Sequel Disease.

It is amazing how the reviews of this book vary. I wonder how many of the reviewers played Battledroids (aka Battletech). There is no doubt the other writers are fine writers, but only Keith's Gray Death Legion surpasses how much I enjoyed this book. So much of the rest . . . simply filler and fluff to carry the game line.

Must Read for Any BattleTech Fan, Explains Much.

This was a very good book. This Book explains what most BattleTech Novels don't. The dire state of Technology of over 300 years of intense interstellar warfare. The Book explains much of waht happened and why in the Warrior Trilogy and sets the stage for the other Books in the series. Read this book before you read any other BattleTech books.

The seeds of inner sphere political conflict

This early battletech novel is a superb starting off point for any reader. The introduction of the capellan and davion states sets the stage for the future Warrior Trilogy. I feel that Liao was the hero in the book. The Capellan aspirations for the Star League throne are well founded. Fans also get to see more characterization of Arden Sortek who was left out of most other novels. This book should be put back in print immediately!

The rest are downhill

This Was the first B-tech book, and It sets the tone for the remaining 30 something books. I've read them all and This ranks at the top.
