Beautiful story

This book was such a beautful story about a progressive family in a southern town when the enslaved became freedmen. It was very well written, I could not put this book down! Very moving, and very realistic of the times. Highly recommend.

The VERY Best Book our Club has read all Year

I loved this book! It is beautifully written - attention grabbing - each of the main characters are alive on the page...The author is so smart and insightful. It is a book I relished...did will not speed through - I marveled at the story line - appreciated the beauty of the words. Could not put it down and did NOT want it to end.
