This book is very concise, colorful, appealing and easy to read and understand!

It's fun to read a book like this. If you think you knew a lot about the sun, you'll be surprised at how much you don't know. This is a "True Book." In the front you will find two sentences and only one of them is true. You'll have to read the book to find out the correct one. Every day you can see and feel the effects of the sun. A fact that you may not have been aware of is that the sun is a star. The sun is "the closest star to the other seven planets in Earth's solar system." It also is at its center and all the planets orbit around it. It would only take a matter of months for a space probe to reach the sun, but it would burn up very quickly because "the gasses around the sun can get as hot as 9 million degrees Fahrenheit!" As stars go, it is only medium sized, but in relation to the earth it is huge with a diameter of approximately 865,000 miles. The reason all the planets orbit the sun is because it has a lot of gravity. In this book you will learn about our solar system, why the sun is so hot, what it is made of, what sun spots and solar flares are, you'll learn about the beautiful auroras (you can view a picture of our northern lights), why the sun makes our planet a perfect one to support life forms, its role in weather conditions, and our space missions to study the sun. Astronomers did find "clever ways to study the sun from afar," but you'll have to read the book to find out about these fascinating missions! This book is very concise, colorful, appealing and easy to read and understand. There are many full color enhanced photographs, a timeline, informative sidebars, interesting facts scattered throughout the book, a fantastic illustration of our solar system, a page of statistics, important words, an index and additional recommended book and web site resources to explore. Did you know that "many gas bubbles on the sun are as big as the state of Texas?" You just might be interested in reading some other interesting things about our most important star!
