What a Ride

An amazing book. Reads like a movie - the pace moves you through at a sprint, and I was hungry till the end. Underground Vegas, the Mob, Hollywood, and a little taste of Love... Damn it's a good one - I wouldn't be surprised if someone makes it into a feature film...

The "Strip of Old"

Las Vegas, Hollywood, The Mob and an irresistible love story combine to make this a fascinating, fast paced read. The novel takes place in 1980 during the last years of organized crime's ownership and control of Vegas hotels and casinos and is a historically accurate picture of what was transpiring at the time. Many actual Mafia figures are part of the story and Vincent uses their real names as they interplay with his riveting and colorfully drawn fictional characters. Nick Conti is the creator, head writer and executive producer of a smash hit television show starring a Las Vegas private eye. The series is being produced by Altman Productions, owned by Sam Altman, the most famous and successful television producer in Hollywood. A Chicago mobster sees an opportunity to extort thecompany and Conti, who has his own carefully concealed Mob connections, goes head to head with him in a story filled with surprising twists and turns. This is one of the best of the genre.

I'm a sucker for Mafia related books and Duke Vincent has written two of my recent favorites, MAFIA SUMMER and BLACK WIDOW. This time he turns his attention to Las Vegas circa 1980, and the adventures of a TV producer Nick Conti who is shooting his hit series THE STRIP on location in Vegas. When a local mobster tries to shake down Conti and Conti stands up to him, the chips hit the fan. Conti has to juggle the mob, an old girlfriend, the Hollywood tycoon he works for and the cast and crew of his TV show in this exciting, sexy, fun read. Vincent was a Hollywood producer, and one of the shows he lists in his biography is VEGAS. Which made me wonder as read I THE STRIP, how much was real and how much was fiction.
