Drawing on his experience as a combat officer during WW2 and his decades of military investigative journalism Mr Hadley has both the insight and the ability to describe the state of today's military. He tells us in detail the recent history and the problems of our military bureaucracy, how it came to be, how it drastically reduces the effectiveness of our armed forces and he offers thoughts on how to restore our ability to defend ourselves. His style is very readable, his ideas well thought out and presented with the comfort and ease of many years of professional reporting. Although this book has a few years under its belt it is just as or more pertinent today than when it was written.
