GREAT READ ALOUD

Both my 5 and 7 year old have enjoyed this book. In fact, they have enjoyed it so much that we are now reading The Voyages of Dr. Dolittle. This book is even better. They wake in the morning asking to be read this book. The Voyages of Dr. Dolittle would be great for a teacher to to read aloud just before writer's workshop. Great descriptors!

Good book with simple sentences

Doctor Dolittle was a human doctor once. But he liked animals very much. Then when his pets grew many, people didn't like them and didn't visit him. But one of his pets taught him animal languages when he had almost no money. Then he decided he became an animal doctor. This was the beginning of the adventure of Doctor Dolittle. This book was written with simple words and simple sentences. Then I could read this book faster than usual. Hugh Lofting wrote this story in the letter to his children for amusing them during World War One. After that this became this book, the first story of Dr. Dolittle. Finaly eight Doctor Dolittle books came out and the second book got the Newbery Medal. He was born in England. And he studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT. At first I had start to read e-Book of this. And the introduction of the book said the illustrations in the book also written by author. Then I decided buying a paperback of this because the e-Book doesn't have pictures. This is a good book. It's easy to understand as I already said. I strongly recommend reading this book. Happy Reading!

worth listening to over and over

My family and I have listened to this performance by Alan Bennett at least 4 times in the past year. When we first listened to it, my youngest was only 5 and yet was able to follow the entire story thanks to Mr. Bennett's wonderful voice characterisations. We just finished listening to it today for the 4th time and have never tired of it. We now enjoy catching the little things we missed the first few times. As a result of this, we look for Mr. Bennett's readings often and have enjoyed his rendition of Winnie the Pooh, too!

The Story of Doctor Dolittle read by Martin Short is Magical

Martin Short brings pure magic to the Airplay Audio Cassette The Story of Doctor Dolittle. My kids and I laughed and listened, over and over again. Martin Short creates a distinct voice for every animal, and the humans, too. Another important aspect is Airplay's version is unabridged, but all the dated prejudices have been dumped in favor of a much more engaging encounter with poor Prince Bumpo, this is a children's story everyone can enjoy.
