Wow! What a great book, I can't believe it's not credited as being James Stewart Thayer's masterpiece. Is right up there with The Eagle Has Landed and Eye of the Needle - one of the best spy thrillers I've ever read! An American spy is sent to Poland, 1947 with a mission - sink the first and only Nazi aircraft carrier, the Graf Zeppelin, before the Soviets can refurbish it for their own navy. He's pursued by communists, enlists the help of a beautiful partisan woman and a former Gestapo officer, and is basically written off by the OSS in Washington before he even begins. Very well written, fascinating characters and it's clear Thayer does his research. The ending feels a little rushed, but overall a great read. Highly recommended!
