Cheerful and motivating

This is an excellent security book for everyone to read. I expected this book to instill paranoia: it does not. To the contrary, I was surprised to find that it's cheerful. (Non-paranoid cheerfulness is quite rare in books of genres pertaining to security.) It instills (realistic levels of) confidence, and is mentally stimulating. It even unexpectedly motivated this reader to do some housecleaning. As I wandered around the house looking for things to hide and things to hide them in, I found myself putting things in order, since it didn't do to have things just lying around. Its tone is delighted as it discusses the complex thought-exercise of creating hiding-places, and describes the barely-stifled glee of trying not to tell everyone about how clever one's hiding-place is. It tells of a number of traditional hiding-places, and some historical ways used by spies and ninja. It tells of some commercially available hiding-place things, such as hollow walking canes. It also provides numerous hints for creating your own original hiding-places, which it says are best of all, since they're not as well-known. It covers several types of hiding places: large hiding places which are built into your house, with trap doors and such; hiding places which are part of your furniture; hiding places that can be made on a car; and hiding places that can be worn on the body, such as a wallet worn on a band around the leg. The grayscale photographs and diagrams are well-printed and useful. Do read the introduction chapters, don't skip them. It has a lot of discussion about the general concept of hiding, and how it's not just a survival tactic for people with contraband (which the book avoids discussing much) but is also a practical and fun activity for all people, even those without much of anything to hide, or anyone trying to foil a possible burglar.
