Enthralling Chapter of History

I have read several of Larson’s books and have liked them all for one important reason—he is able to make a NF book read as if it were a novel. His books are always extensively researched and beautifully written. And at the same time, they keep me engaged. The Spendid and the Vile examines Churchill during one of the most crucial times in his life—the period leading up to the Anglo-American partnership. I found everything about this book absolutely intriguing. I learned so much about what went on behind the scenes: the characters, circumstances, and relationships that carved out our future. This is a book for anyone interested in the history of the USA or the UK, or any WWII buff. I highly recommend it for all lovers of great non-fiction!

History is safe in the hands of Erik Larson.

The more I learn about Winston Churchill, the more I want to know. Larson delivers, more than one could ask, Churchill's brilliant navigation of the most difficult times for England and the British people. The blitz-bombing was horrific with all walks of life greatly impacted. Larson spares none as he walks us through what Churchill saw and faced as his beloved country was battered. Churchill not only led the British with extraordinary decisions, but further inspired each and every one to press into the fight. Larson shares that yes, Churchill was a great orator, but not a political one. Remember, too, Churchill said, "when going through hell...keep going." I recommend this to all interested in Churchill but also decency, truth, strength, authenticity, and good over evil.

Most entertaining reading

Mr. Larson's writing is akin to watching a movie. It is so compelling that you just have to keep reading. Also, the book is most informative, exposed many things of which I was not aware. I've always admired Mr. Churchill, now I appreciate him even more.

My first Erik Larson experience.

I guarantee it won't be my last. Historically sound and, at the same time, riveting. Finished it in 2 days between post-surgery naps.
