The Spiderwick Chronicles, Books 1 and 2: The Field Guide and The Seeing Stone

We love this series. I have enjoyed it right along with my seven year old.

All about adventure

I thought this book was a great story!!Did you? I thought this book was great becaucse it is about a sound in the house,wich the children in the house(Jared,Mallory,Simon)thought was a squirrel in the walls ,so Mallory, the only girl with the other boys, got a broom and Mallory held it like a baseball bat.WACK.Later on all of the children made a lift to take a look whats in the wall, Jared went in the lift to see whats the sound was.He found all sorts of things like, bones,skulls,treasure chests,wierd notes to the children.This was one of the poems:In a man's torso you will find,My secret to all mankind if false and true, can be the same you will soon know of my fame Up and up and up again.Good luck dear friend.He also found a book that said all the secrets(as said in the poem about secrets)After all it wasnt a Squrirrel it was a monster about the size of a regular pencil,he was holding three small dogs.READ THIS BOOK!!

Eager to hear the rest of the story!

We checked out the CD version from our library to listen to in the car. My 5 1/2 yr old twins and I would finish listening to a chapter in the driveway this was so interesting. I'm not a big "fantasy" person, but these stories make fairies and goblins seem so real, like they really could be living in our backyards. (And who am I to say they don't?) I thought my guys would be a little scared of the "visual" image I had at times while listening, but they never seemed bothered. They asked lots of questions about "bad" fairies and goblins, since they know the "good" fairies (eg. Tinkerbell, fairy godmothers) so we did have to stop and explain some of the scarier parts, but overall, this story kept them quiet, entertained and certainly opened up a new door in their imagination. Our library only carries the book version of the next chapters so I am here looking for more CD versions.

~~~~~~For young readers who love fantasy~~~~~~~~
The Spiderwick Chronicles, The Feild Guid (volume 1) was a very good introduction to the series I must say! The way Holly and Tony (authors) used their talents was amazing! I found that I myself could relate to the book in a way, because Jared Grace used to be an okay/most of the time obeadinat child, until his father passed away!As the mystery unfolds during their first few weeks in their new house, certain items are lost,certain secrets revealed. Also amoungst all of the elements of supision were written in a way so capitvated that I couldn't put the book down!! I do have one thing to say about the book that I couldn't believe they did this, they gave you a cliff hanger ending, I know it's a series of books but common all books need to have an important or full ending! Other than this The book was terrific!!
