Best of any world?

Today's read: The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson Genre: science fiction (multiverse), LGBTQ+ Friendly "Maybe that was Nik-Nik's appeal. Not that he was powerful enough to keep safe, but that he was too powerful for my curse to touch him. I can destroy almost anyone. My mother, [my friends], even myself over 300 times. Death hangs over me like too-fine dust settles on the skin - weightless but impossible. To remove, no matter how hard you try." Cara's job was traverse into other universes and collect information. There was one big catch to traversing: you couldn't go to a universe where you (another version of you) was alive. Lucky for Cara, in most versions of the universe, she's dead. Of course... Cara's job and everything she believes is about to unravel... This was a good read with an interesting world and concept for the use of multiverse travel. There was a lot of diversity among the characters. Themes revolved around selfishness vs altruism, found family vs real family, power, classism, and abuse (self, others). There were some slow bits, but overall enjoyable. It kept me reading and I abandoned all my other books (often up to 4 in process) to stay immersed in this fascinating world.
