The Soul of Success

Often, we define success by how much money we have in the bank and the quantity of material possessions we have. We endlessly drive ourselves towards these objectives thinking that all our problems, insecurities, and life issues will be solved once our financial goals are met. We don't even think about what we lose and ignore in such attempts. The book The Soul of Success: A Women's Guide to Authentic Power contains the stories of twenty-seven women who have defined and fulfilled their individualized vision of success. Many of these women attained their financial goals only to realize that money and material possessions weren't the answer to their problems. Only then did these individuals realize that they had something more valuable to give to themselves, their families, and the world than money- themselves. This book is inspirational and thought provoking. The stories contained in The Soul of Success are frank, open, and honest giving the feeling of sharing secrets with your best friend or your sister. Moreover, all of the lessons learned in these stories are relevant and realistic, even in our chaotic modern world. Curl up with a nice hot cup of tea and be prepared to laugh, cry, and begin to awaken to who you are and how you will define your success.

Way BEyond "Chicken Soup"!

Although the title suggests this book is targeted to women readers, and the stories are written by women, the principles written about are really quite universal. And what a collection of stories it is! As much as I appreciate the "Chicken Soup" series, the material in this book offers a much greater depth of development. I found this collection powerful because the author's introduction to each principle really clarifies what's at stake, making the stories themselves stronger in their capacity to teach and transform. The author, Jennifer Read Hawthorne, a very successful motivational speaker, really lays bare her soul. Her highly personal approach to her subject, and the vulnerability, intelligence, clarity and self-effacing humor with which she writes about coming to grips with the issues addressed in the book, are what makes it particularly moving. The women's voices in these 27 first-person accounts ring true with the authenticity of hard-won wisdom. It's a very potent combination: Ms. Read's brilliantly communicated set-up for each story and the lesson learned in the story itself. This is an illuminating and thought-provoking treatment that will strike a resonant chord with many readers of both genders. Take it to heart. It's worth the trip.

Empowering!

When I first picked up this book I thought, that since it was written by a woman to a woman audience, I would have little to no value reading it. BOY WAS I WRONG. Jennifer did an outstanding job showing us how chasing after traditional success (monetary success) eventually will leave us feeling very empty. And it so true, after we are able to pay all our bills and have a few dollars extra, what we really need to do is stop and think if chasing down another few bucks will bring us more happiness or not. There was a study I once read that stated: `to be happy you only need to make 40,000 a year' (yeah, it was written a little while ago... and I am sure we have to add a few dollars to make that more current, but the point is that as long as you are able to pay for a normal comfortable lifestyle, whether you are happy after that is completely unrelated to your income. Rather it all has to do with our attitude... and yet so many of us still think that more money will bring us more happiness! Why? Because we have been conditioned to think so. I urge you to read this book and see for yourself the powerful principles contained within. Jennifer has some talent... she inspires us to get in touch with our real self--our soul.
