NOT JUST ANOTHER PRETTY COVER...

The Sociology of Education In Canada is more than just another book with a pretty cover. In this book, the author, Dr. Terry Wotherspoon, successfully provides an in-depth critical sociological analysis of the contemporary issues and challenges that concern the educational system in Canada. More specifically, the author addresses such issues as gender bias, poverty, racism, and the needs of First Nations students in our schools. The sections that I found to be especially interesting included first-person accounts of the residential school experience, and the diary of an elementary school teacher. As a fellow sociologist, and an educator who has taught everything from kindergarten to upper-year sociology classes, I highly recommend Dr. Wotherspoon's book to anyone who has a desire to gain some interesting insights into the Canadian educational system. I personally intend to utilize this book as a text in some of my future university classes. Thanks Dr. Wotherspoon. Your dedication to conceiving this body of research is greatly appreciated...especially at a time when our educational system faces serious challenges that are often considered to be of crisis proportions.
